The awkward first post

Alright, the blogging life begins. I thought about it for a long time, a very long time if you count years in between where I didn’t think about it. Whatever the fuzzy math, a subjective “long time”. Here and there I would do the normal geek thing and installWordPress on a random box, screw around with it, f up the custom CSS/PHP such that it won’t render in Internet Exploder and then ask “why didn’t I just use a hosted service?” Answer: because it wouldn’t be awesome. Obviously. I basically would just screw around with it as “research” and then discard it pretty soon afterwards. What a waste of time. Oh well.

Thus, I consequently never “crossed the chasm” (you’ll notice that I love ridiculing business buzzwords, amongst many other things). Reason being, I jumped head first at the tech/geekness/solitary keyboard hacking and did not consider what I could blog about. Usually I just had one totally awesome thing to say about some totally random topic. Upon starting to author it, I realized one cool topic does not a blog make and I’d give up.

And then there was also the problem that I was a pretty crappy writer while I worked as a engineer. Only through many acrimonious nights of Stengelita flogging my B-School essays into conformity with the non-engineer English language did I learn to write in a reasonable way. Then again, you be the judge, things change quickly, I regress, I forget stuff. (btw, I wanted to write s*&$ just now, but I’m trying to be good. We’ll see how long that lasts.)

Anyhow, I digress. I’d like to really just say “welcome” and “willkommen” – the only two languages I really know – and state the awesome new topic of this blog. I found a good one. A really good one. You’ll be so impressed. It’s so novel. So nouveau. So avant-garde. So different. So out there. So OMG-how-did-you-come-up-with. Ready?

Are you sure you’re ready?

It’s gonna be shweet…

And the topic is…

ANYTHING. Shocker, huh? Total shocker. Like I-just-got-tazered shocker. Like Sarah Palin said something smart shocker. Like you just broke the cardinal sin of bloggging shocker.

And that’s what it really is. I like to break the rules. I might be German and we like our rules, but I also like to break them or at a minimum test how flexible they are. Now I’m not talkin’ criminal stuff obviously, but let’s break the norm. Let’s run wild. Let’s be rebels. Let’s ski out of bounds. Let’s tee up the driver and swing harder than Tiger. Let’s get the radar detector out, because it’s crazy time. (bad reference on Tiger and swinging by the way, but I again digress…)

So to bring it back around, I won’t belabor the reasons of why the lack of focus, because they’re simple:

  1. I’m not sure that I could get myself to focus on one thing and come up with enough stuff.
  2. Like a good German, I vill be very organisiert about sis. I’ll file, sort, tag, annotate and label everything so it has its place.
  3. Democracy. Read what you like, don’t read what you don’t like. I’ll see what resonates.

Rock on, internets.

  1. Dude – its the inter-tubes/-pipes, not -nets. And how come you haven’t integrated Disqus? Looking forward to reading about anything! 🙂

    • That’s right, the interwebs. 🙂

Good idea on Disqus. I’ll look into it tonight. I really don’t want to make people sign up for an account to be able to comment, yet I want to prevent anonymous people from posting and make everyone own up to what they’re writing. Disqus is the right solution with Twitter/FB auth. Good call – thanks!

    • I looked into Disqus, read FAQs and forums, had a few exchanges with and the bottom line is that there’s currently no support for external plugins like Disqus or for doing Twitter/FB auth on the current commenting system, Intense Debate. Unless I move to a self-hosted blog, which I don’t want to do, I’m stuck. I’ll revisit this once I have some time…
